this weekend turned out to be another good one. i am overwhelmed by the quality of my community of friends. it definitely helps to overcome the loneliness i spoke of last week. this period of trial will be coming to its peak soon and it will finally be time to take some steps forward. no more waiting. i want my forward motion to be here in fargo. i want my forward motion to look like this weekend looked.
i am meeting one of the youth pastors from a church in town. if you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you may recall me mentioning in december an event that was put on by this church and this particular pastor. i have a sour taste about that event and about this church. that is partially why i am meeting with him today; not to rehash my frustrations over this event, but to learn more about him and his church and where they are coming from. i just want to gain perspective from an insider so that i hopefully will not harbor these frustrations any more. our church is far from perfect and my perspective and personal style need improvement as well. pray for all of us that are directly or indirectly involved in the various ministries in this town. that we can work side by side in our different methods. that we can focus on a common end, even if the means are very different. we all want to share Christ’s love and see His kingdom advanced on this earth. i will most certainly share about our meeting later. should be interesting… if he ever shows up.

The sad thing about those sort of nearly inherently self-defeating outreach events is that it’s often (in my observation) not so much the youth pastor’s fault as the people that he’d have to answer to if a real, live “obviously lost” person showed up out of the blue (drunk or stoned, perhaps) instead of just little Jimmy’s bud from West Fargo High with the spiky hair whose mom lets him listen to Eminem. It’s really easy to get bitter about this sort of thing, I’ve got to say.
